Important Deadlines: Companion Animals

Aug 8th: Animal Ownership Needs to Uploaded into 4-H Online

Members can register as many animals as they wish.

Only 4 can be exhibited.

General Info About 4-H Companion Animals

Companion Animals MUST BE shown at the county's Achievement Days to be shown at State Fair.

 

Exhibitors will provide their own carrier/cages to house their Companion Animals during the show.

​

Junior & Senior members are required to answer veterinary sciences questions related to their Companion Animal species.

​

Cat/Kitten Showmanship

Beginners, Juniors or Seniors can enter their cat/kitten in showmanship.

Each age division will be asked interview questions about cats.

Specific Animal Requirements for Entering Companion Animals in 4-H

Companion Animals do not have to purebred. They will be judged on their physical condition, cleanliness, presentation, temperament, and attractive or unique appearance.

Rabbits can be entered, if they do not meet the breed standards for the 4-H Rabbit Show.

Companion animals can be exhibited live at local Achievement Days/County Fair, but live animals are limited to these species & their age at State Fair:

  • Cat/Kitten & Ferrets

    • Must be 4 months old or older

  • Chinchillas

    • Must be 7 weeks old or older

  • Gerbils & Hamsters

    • Must be 4 weeks old or older

  • Mice & Rats

    • Must be 4 weeks old or older

  • Hedgehogs

    • Must be 5 weeks old or older

  • Rabbits

    • Must be 9 weeks or older

  • Guinea Pigs/Cavies

    • Must be 4 weeks old or older

  • Birds (Canaries, Cockatiels, Cockatoos, Finches, Parakeets & Parrots)

    • Must be fledgling age or older

Important Deadlines: Poultry

  • June 1st: All poultry need to be registered into 4-H Online -  Both leased & owned 

  • ​​July 1st: Youth Livestock Literacy (YLL) must be completed to exhibit poultry

  • Aug 8th: Numbered leg band entered into 4-H Online and FairEntry​​

 

Members can register as many poultry as they wish.

Only 4 head can be exhibited .

Requirements for Entering Poultry in 4-H

Poultry must have:

  • Numbered leg band

  • Official paperwork showing they are from a pullorum typhoid clean source or a negative test to show on the CVI

Poultry must come in proper carrying cages.

Important Deadlines: Rabbits

  • June 1st: All rabbits need to be registered into 4-H Online -  Both leased & owned 

  • July 1st: Youth Livestock Literacy (YLL) must be completed to exhibit livestock

  • Aug 8th: Registration papers need to be uploaded into FairEntry

    • If animal is purchased, ownership date must be by June 1st​

 

Members can register as many rabbits as they wish.

Only 4 rabbits can be exhibited.

Requirements for Entering Rabbits in 4-H

Rabbits must have:

  • Ear tattoo

    • No rabbits can be tattooed  between county shows and State Fair.

 

Rabbits must come in proper carrying cages with trays and proper wire on the bottom of carriers.
